About

Overview keeper.

CTO, AI systems builder, technical nerd, gamer, writer — and the person in the room who keeps the whole system in my head so everyone else can move fast.

I entered the industry at 16 and kept growing from there. Thirty years later the through-line is the same: take an ambiguous, messy problem, build the system that solves it, and build the organization of people that keeps it solved. That has meant an index platform with 2.5 million daily visitors run out of my own home in my early twenties, an image-infrastructure product I conceived, brought to market and scaled as CTO to 1 billion hits a day, the cryptography concepts behind the Swiss e-ID, and today the secure AI infrastructure of AlpineAI — plus a CHF 10 million programme putting one AI platform in the hands of 116 municipalities.

The part I am proudest of is not the traffic. It is the team I built to 15 people with zero attrition, and left running well without me. Over 50 people hired from 300+ interviews later, I still think hiring, developing and trusting people beats managing them — and that the real measure of a technical leader is a team that keeps delivering on its own.

I care about company organization as much as code. I originated the core ideas of a salary system that won a Swiss HR Award, introduced Kanban at Teleboy and helped move Liip to Holacracy, and I study organizational theory as a discipline rather than a phase — which is why consultants bring me in when one of their hardest cases gets stuck. I take those on because the problems themselves are the reward: the difficult ones are the interesting ones, and they keep what I know current. Away from work I write fiction, walk my dog, shoot a recurve bow, automate my home, build my own furniture, 3D print things, architect and build software that extends what I can do — and keep an unreasonable number of browser tabs open.
